JACKSON, Miss. (March 29, 2025)– In a landmark moment of cultural celebration and scientific curiosity, over 30 Spanish-speaking families from across Central Mississippi participated in their first-ever guided bilingual tour at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science. The event marked the launch of SR1’s newest multicultural initiative, Senderos de Descubrimientos – Trails of Discovery, dedicated to empowering Latino communities through the joy of learning, exploring, and connecting with nature and science.

Explore. Learn. Connect.

This groundbreaking program, spearheaded by SR1’s International and Multicultural Services Department under the leadership of Dr. Yudenia Tiza Rodriguez and SR1 COO Mrs. Dorlisa Hutton, is designed to provide inclusive STEM experiences across Central Mississippi, including the communities of Forest, Morton, Canton, Ridgeland, and Jackson.

Thanks to a dynamic partnership with the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, Senderos de Descubrimientos opens the door for families to engage in immersive, hands-on learning—fostering a love for science and nature while strengthening community ties.

The March 29th bilingual museum tour was led by none other than the museum’s beloved guide, Mr. Corey Wright, whose energetic storytelling brought the exhibits to life. Children and adults alike lit up with curiosity as they explored Mississippi’s rich natural habitats, interacted with wildlife displays, and asked thoughtful questions—many experiencing a science museum for the very first time.

“I thank SR1 and the Museum of Natural Science for inspiring not only our children but also us adults,” shared Griselda, who attended with four young members of her community. “This experience enriches all of us, making us wiser and more curious about science and nature.”

The day continued with a festive gathering at LeFleur’s Bluff Park, where families bonded over delicious, authentic Latino cuisine provided by El Potrillo. Despite cloudy skies, the air was filled with laughter, learning, and cultural pride as the event wrapped up with a vibrant picnic celebrating spring’s arrival and the unity of diverse communities.

Senderos de Descubrimientos is more than just a tour—it’s a movement. Aimed at celebrating Latino heritage while making STEM education more accessible, SR1 is paving trails of discovery for future generations to thrive in science, culture, and community.
