June 7 marked the beginning of SR1’s 2016 Summer Enrichment camp, which was kicked off with a health theme. The week focused on enlightening students about different aspects of health from mental, physical, emotional, and behavioral standpoints. One tool used this week to effectively convey information was the engagement of students in open discussions of varying health-related topics. One highlight of the week was having visitors present from Moore Dental Group of Carthage, MS, to discuss proper oral hygiene practices. The students also took part in many hands-on activities, including making soap, creating healthy nachos alternatives and balloon stress balls.
In order to get the students up and moving, peers led them in a fast food relay, during which the students learned nutritional facts about some of their favorite fast foods while learning and engaging in different physical exercises.
