COOL Ridgeland Project

SR1 has been serving the City of Ridgeland for the past two years. COOL Ridgeland services Olde Towne Middle School for students in sixth-eighth grade and this year added Highland Elementary for students in third-fifth grade. We meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school at Holmes Community College from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Some of the highlights we have had serving these students have been field trips to New Orleans, Louisiana, and Disney on Ice, creating habitats for isopods (roly-polys), and having a scientist from the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science come and teach the students about reptiles. We also utilize the Soccer for Success curriculum to help further our students’ health; the only program in the state of Mississippi to do so. This program contributes to SR1’s overall mission of the attainment of college access and success for students.
